Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering has been appointed to create the platforms which will pave the way for construction of more than 800 new homes on the site. This will see the northern section of the site developed with new roads and associated infrastructure being built.


The £200m first phase will also include a multi-million pound SportScotland regional sports facility and the relocation of Motherwell College to a new, state-of-the-art campus - due to be completed by summer 2008.

The construction work on phase one will involve development of some 25 per cent of the whole site and is expected to create more than 200 construction jobs over the next five years.
